Admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaysia, I have had over 30 years’ experience in legal practice in New Zealand and overseas jurisdictions.
My primary practice area is in tax. Before joining Stace Hammond, I was a Director of Ernst & Young, Malaysia. Before that, I worked as a prosecutor for the Inland Revenue Department. Due to my extensive experience and level of expertise, I am able to directly negotiate with the IRD, accountants and other professional colleagues in the tax and commercial arena. I also have the added benefit of having extensive networks in Asia and other overseas jurisdictions.
I am passionate about ensuring that tax law and its financial implications are accessible and understood by a wide audience. To help achieve this, I present seminars addressing GST and other tax related matters to local and international audiences. I have also published opinion pieces that address the impact of GST on the telecommunication industry, petroleum industry and other utility industries.
I also have experience in insurance and commercial law.
I consult extensively with fellow Malaysians in New Zealand, and am President of the New Zealand Malaysia Business Association.
I specialise in advising on:
- General tax matters
- Negotiations with IRD
- Tax structures
- International tax obligations
- Double tax agreements
- Student loan negotiations
- Business advice
